This was nothing short of a communist invasion, in his eyes, and the patriots of Green Charter needed to rise up and confront the Red Peril. But the backlash in Green Charter represents something seldom seen since the Red Scare: a quasi-militant, homegrown resistance to the perceived threat of communism at home. But as the war over Gotion began to consume Green Charter, Riebow began to feel that the township board was behaving "too secretly." It's easy to dismiss what's happened in Green Charter as yet another sign of America's descent into dangerous incivility. Asked about Gotion's plans in Green Charter, Panetta replied, "I don't think there's any question that they are going to take advantage of that situation."

[1/3] Former U.S. President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks during a 2024 presidential campaign rally in Dubuque, Iowa, U.S. September 20, 2023. Democrats are hoping to exploit what they see as a structural weakness for Republicans in battleground states in 2024: any Republican candidate who criticizes Trump risks losing the party's Trump-loving voter base. But they believe any Republican who doesn't condemn Trump risks losing more moderate Republicans and independent voters they need to beat a Democrat. Republican party officials say Democrats' time would be better spent worrying about their own presidential candidate Joe Biden's popularity. "The amount of damage Trump has done to the Republican Party in the suburbs is extraordinary.

[1/2] Abortion rights demonstrators rally to mark the first anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in the Dobbs v Women's Health Organization case, overturning the landmark Roe v Wade abortion decision, in Washington, U.S., June 24, 2023. It is part of a larger push by women's, reproductive rights and Democratic groups to put abortion rights at the heart of the 2024 campaign and attack anti-abortion measures on local ballots around the country. Midterm exit polls showed that a bump in young voters, and especially women, helped Democrats, and women voters swinging from Trump helped deliver the White House to Biden in 2020. No Dem Left Behind, a political action committee, started training activists this week to reach across the aisle on abortion rights. Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), told Fox News she was happy to see Republican candidates discussing abortion ahead of the 2024 election.

It is part of a larger push by women's, reproductive rights and Democratic groups to put abortion rights at the heart of the 2024 campaign and attack anti-abortion measures on local ballots around the country. Biden campaign officials, the Democratic National Committee and rights groups told Reuters that abortion rights stopped an expected "red wave" Republican takeover of the Senate in 2022, and they believe it will draw more Democrats and some independent and Republican voters to Biden in 2024. No Dem Left Behind, a political action committee, started training activists this week to reach across the aisle on abortion rights. Americans' support for abortion rights is nuanced, however. Ronna McDaniel, chairwoman of the Republican National Committee, told Fox News she was happy to see Republican candidates discussing abortion ahead of the 2024 election.

About half the respondents who voted for Biden in 2020 said they have heard little or nothing of his major policy initiatives to reduce inflation or boost spending on infrastructure. Biden and fellow Democrats pushed bills through Congress that put about $1.5 trillion toward new bridge, road, climate and manufacturing projects. Democratic strategist Jennifer Holdsworth said this week's trip would counter a message spread by the nation's right-wing media distorting the economy and Biden's legislative agenda. "As President Biden gets out there on the campaign trail, I think you'll see that trend start to change," she said. On Wednesday, Biden will be in New Mexico to tout the IRA's role in a clean-energy manufacturing boom, one year after the law was signed.

"I think it shows Biden's support level is pretty soft," said Kyle Kondik, an elections analyst at the University of Virginia's Center for Politics. Democratic strategists expressed confidence that the party's voters would enthusiastically support Biden once he announces his run. Biden was the pick for 35% of Democrats and Trump for 43% of Republicans. 2 with 31% of registered Republicans backing him, just 12 percentage points behind Trump. By comparison, only a quarter of registered Republicans said Trump, 76, who was hospitalized with COVID-19 during his presidency, was not fit for the physical demands of the office.
STELLENBOSCH, South Africa, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Flocks of white, black and brown ducks hunt for snails and bugs as they patrol the grapevines at a vineyard in South Africa's winemaking town of Stellenbosch, helping the owners steer clear of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers. Around 500 Indian runner ducks work as a natural pest control at the Vergenoegd Löw Wine Estate, but also entertain wine-quaffing tourists. "We call them the soldiers of the vineyards," the managing director of the estate, Corius Visser, told Reuters. Ducks are at the heart of the winery's regenerative agriculture practices, and specifically Indian runner ducks, which have long legs and an upright posture, meaning they are able to reach for snails between the leaves. Nutrient-rich manure from the ducks and other animals ensure the vineyard runs as sustainably as possible.
WASHINGTON, Nov 9 (Reuters) - Encouraged by better-than-expected midterm results, Democratic strategists on Wednesday predicted U.S. President Joe Biden would run again despite exit polls showing two-thirds of voters, including 43% of Democrats, prefer he not seek re-election. Republicans and pundits alike continue to underestimate him at their own peril,” Jennifer Holdsworth, a Democratic strategist, told Reuters. Another Democratic strategist, Karen Finney, said the midterms result should mean that Biden "gets all the time he wants to decide" on what to do about 2024. Two thirds of midterm voters - including 43% of Democrats - would prefer that Biden not seek re-election in 2024, according to exit polling conducted by Edison Research. U.S. President Joe Biden delivers remarks at the Global Fund’s Seventh Replenishment Conference in New York, U.S., September 21, 2022. While former president Donald Trump has long been considered the Republican frontrunner in 2024, recent polls show DeSantis higher in Florida. There’s no way we are going to escape the elephant in the room,” a senior Democratic official said of DeSantis. "I think he's great. I think he's doing a great job.
